Missoula Measures - Free & Reduced Lunches
Related Data: Poverty
Percent of Missoula County Elementary School Eligible for Free Lunch Program
To qualify for the federally funded free school lunch program, the child’s household income must fall at or below 125 percent of poverty (185 percent for reduced school lunches). For the average family of four in the U. S., the poverty guideline is $22,050. In 2010 that means that a family of 4 earning less than $28,665 qualifies for free school lunches; a family of 4 earning less than $40,793 qualifies for reduced-fee school lunches.
Note: This table provides a better sense of how poverty is geographically distributed among Missoula's children. Significant variations between rates for different schools is often a result of a higher transient/rental home owner population in certain areas.
