Missoula County has approximately 1,500 miles of public roadway. The County Road Department is responsible for maintenance activities on approximately 474 miles of road which have been accepted for maintenance. Of these 474 miles, approximately 232 miles are paved and 242 miles are gravel.

Bridge Weight Limits

The division also has maintenance responsibility for approximately 528 sumps and more than 100 culverts within the County right of way. The Department operates and maintains one portable rock crusher which is used to produce the aggregate materials needed for road maintenance.

Roads employs 30 operators and mechanics, with 25 of them covering 375 miles and working out of the main office west of Missoula, and five out of the satellite shop in Seeley Lake, covering 99 miles.

The Road Department's hours are 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, following daylight savings time, and 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday prior to DST.
